Cultural Tours: No visit to Nepal would be complete
without a few days in the City of Kathmandu, capital of what
was once the Forbidden Kingdom. A bustling city where sacred
cows compete with the traffic, and old shrines and temples
still predominate in its busy streets. The nearby town of
Bhaktapur is perhaps the jewel in the crown, with unspoilt
side streets and shrines wherever you look.
Mountain Biking/Touring: For those who like a fast
descent but while keeping dry the mountains and hills offer
some great mountain biking, descents that go on and on and
support vehicles to take the sting out of those climbs.
Walking/Trekking: The possibilities are endless and
range from simple day walks in the foothills to demanding
treks into, and sometimes even up, the major Himalayan peaks.
Everest, Annapurna, Kanchenjunga and Langtang are the 4 of
the most visited "Himals" or areas, but there are
many others that offer spectacular scenery and are still little
visited by trekkers. The Annapurna Conservation Area is the
most popular destination with its rich variety of scenery
and one of the most beautiful mountains in the world in Machapuchure,
the 'Fishtail Mountain'. Everest with its Buddhist culture
offers a tempting alternative, complete with the opportunity
of seeing the tallest mountain in the world.
White Water: Rushing from the Himalaya are fast flowing
rivers such as the Sun Kosi and Kali Gandaki, providing some
of the worlds great rafting trips. Enjoy the thrills and spills
by day as you negotiate the white water and then unwind in
the evening around a fire as you camp out under the stars.
Wildlife/Safari: Nepal is not just about mountains.
Down in the area known as the Terai, the jungles and forests
and home not only to the Tiger and Asian Rhino, but also a
vast array of flora and fauna. The lodges here vary from tented
camps to luxury tree houses and the safari's can be done on
foot, by boat or on an elephant.
