Walking/Trekking: The Drakensburgs offer a variety
of walking options, with itineraries that join with trips
into Swaziland and Lesotho.
Wildlife/Safari: There is a whole range of parks and
habitats to visit. The most famous has to be the Krugar National
Park, a huge expanse containing most of the species of wild
animals still existing in the country, certainly the Big 5.
But Parks exist throughout the country, right into the Kalahari
with its rare desert lions and these days its even rarer Bushmen.
It is not only the animals that should enthuse the nature
lover, the birdlife if plentiful, varied and colourful and
from the world-famous Flower Route to the slopes of the Drakensburg
the flora changes constantly.
Other activities: As well as having something for all
tastes, South Africa also has a full range of standards of
travel. For those who like luxury there are some of the most
exclusive reserves and facilities in the world, such as the
Blue Train Service, while those who enjoy getting a bit closer
to Nature can take to self-sufficient all-terrain vehicles
and head off into the bush, sleeping beneath the stars.
