Diving: Once you have done your walking or safari,
Tanzania also boasts some beautiful beaches, many with diving
opportunities. The most famous is Zanzibar, with a long and
colourful history as a trading island, and only now starting
to get popular as a resort. Less visited and with superb reefs
is the island of Pemba.
Walking/Trekking: For the walking enthusiast Kilimanjaro
makes a great challenge and offers a number of different routes
its summit, some harder and longer than others. Whoever climbs
it will get to see rainforest, alpine meadows and the desolate
slopes at the top, as well as the flora and fauna (which includes
the like of elephant, buffalo and leopard).
Wildlife/Safari: Tanzania also boasts some of the
highest numbers of wild animals on the continent, and because
many of the National Parks are situated on the plains it makes
for relatively straightforward and successful game viewing.
The most famous of the Parks is the Serengeti, home to hundreds
of thousands of animals and of the annual wildebeest migration.
Another Park of note is the Ngorongoro Conservation Area,
centred on the Soda Lake Magadi, and home to a vast array
of game. More intrepid travellers may wish to visit the Selous
Game reserve, estimated to be the worlds largest with comparatively
little development.
